Elbow & Arm

Treatment Plans Tailored to You

Elbow and arm injuries can have a variety of causes. Some injuries are due to repetitive use, while others are due to trauma. That’s why it’s important to be evaluated as soon as possible by a physician who listens and can plan treatment not only around the issue, but also the end result you need.

Orthopaedics East & Sports Medicine Center has delivered thousands of examinations, treatments and quality outcomes for elbow and arm issues to residents and athletes across Eastern North Carolina. We have extensive experience with non-surgical and surgical options to get you back in action.

COMMON ISSUE

Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)

Tennis elbow is inflammation or, in some cases, microtearing of the tendons that join the forearm muscles on the outside of the elbow, called the lateral epicondyle. It is caused by overuse of repetitive motions (for example, playing tennis), which leads to pain and tenderness on the outside of the elbow.

COMMON ISSUE

Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)

Golfer’s elbow is inflammation or, in some cases, microtearing of the tendons that join the forearm muscles on the inside of the elbow, called the medial epicondyle. It is caused by overuse of repetitive motions (for example, playing golf), which leads to pain and tenderness on the inside of the elbow and sometimes extends along the inner side of your forearm.

COMMON ISSUE

Cubital Tunnel Entrapment

Cubital tunnel entrapment is compression of the ulnar nerve behind the inside part of the elbow. It is the most common place for compression of the ulnar nerve, which is one of the three main nerves in your arm that travels from your neck down into your hand.

COMMON TREATMENT

UCL Reconstruction (Tommy John Surgery)

Ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction is used to repair a torn UCL, which runs from the inner side of the humerus to the inner side of the ulna. It occurs from extreme stress on the UCL as it stabilizes the elbow during overhand throwing.
